ABOUT RISE SCHOLARS
The RISE Scholars Program extends the vision of RISE by providing a $1,000 traditional scholarship and a crowd-funding opportunity to reduce financial barriers for students of North Korean origin, further empowering recipients to pursue their educational and career aspirations.
TWO WAYS TO IMPACT
Support Individual RISE Scholars
Meet our RISE Scholars on their personal profile pages above and choose to support their journey directly using the link to their GoFundMe page!
Support the RISE Scholars Program
You can support the RISE Scholars program that makes this scholarship opportunity possible by giving directly to “RISE Scholars” through PSALT. Your tax-deductible gift funds the $1,000 scholarship awards, and provides funding for the RISE Scholars program where needed most.
WHY RISE SCHOLARS
We want to go beyond the $1,000 scholarship amount and grow the potential size of each Scholar’s award by inviting the community to invest in their journey.
We believe the process of safely sharing the Scholar’s story will increase awareness about the realities of the North Korean refugee resettlement experience, and invite the larger community to support them with prayer, encouragement, and financial support.
We hope this program will grow the Scholar's sense of agency and empowerment, strengthening them with the blessing of community support and accountability.
HOW IT WORKS
RISE Scholars receive a base $1,000 award from PSALT toward tuition/fees, paid to their educational institution.
PSALT also works with the Scholar to develop a GoFundMe page sponsored by PSALT to share their story with a broader audience. All funds raised through GoFundMe, after processing fees are deducted by GoFundMe, are forwarded to the student by PSALT for their education and living expenses. PSALT does not charge/deduct any fees. All content is posted with the Scholar’s full permission.
In addition to providing financial support, the award includes a mentorship component to offer support for Scholars as they navigate their academic and vocational vision.
Scholarships are not automatically renewed, but the Scholar who wishes to continue will be considered for subsequent awards per reevaluation requirements – including evidence of continued enrollment, continued interest, and other relevant documentation.
